I’m looking for an additional enthusiastic person to join our friendly team at Valley Living in Clitheroe.

As anyone who knows me will tell you, Valley Living is much more than simply a shop. I’ve always wanted it to be somewhere people enjoy visiting – whether they’re looking for the perfect present, treating themselves to something lovely, or simply popping in for a browse and a chat.

So, finding the right person to join us is really important to me.

Could it be you?

We’re looking for a part-time Sales Assistant who genuinely enjoys meeting people and understands what good customer service really means.

You’ll spend plenty of time chatting to our customers, getting to know what they’re looking for, and helping them find just the right thing. Sometimes that might mean suggesting a gift; other times it could simply be knowing when someone would prefer to have a quiet browse!

Previous retail experience is essential, as is confidence dealing with the public. You’ll need to be aged 18 or over, comfortable using computers and EPOS systems and confident handling cash and stock.

But just as important to me is your personality.

You’ll be friendly, approachable and enthusiastic, with a genuine interest in giftware and lifestyle products. You’ll need to be organised, happy to use your own initiative and equally comfortable working as part of our small team.

It’s not all chatting and pretty things!

As lovely as that sounds, anyone who has worked in retail knows there’s plenty going on behind the scenes too.

You’ll help keep the shop looking beautiful and welcoming, receive and unpack deliveries, check and price stock, replenish shelves and displays and generally muck in with whatever needs doing that day.

It can be a physical job too, with boxes to unpack, displays to arrange and stock to move around the shop, so you’ll need to be comfortable with that side of the role.

Accuracy matters. You’ll handle transactions and information, so strong numeracy skills and attention to detail are important. You’ll also need to understand the importance of health and safety in a busy shop environment.

Most of all, I’m looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy and flexible – the sort of person who notices what needs doing and gets on with it.

When would you be working?

This is a part-time role, and flexibility is important.

You will be a permanent member of the team with annual contracted hours (equivalent to 25% of a full-time role).

Retail inevitably gets busier at certain times of the year – and Christmas, weekends and school holidays at Valley Living certainly keep us on our toes! – so I’m looking for someone who understands that and is happy to be flexible when we need an extra pair of hands.
