Kate Thorburn is the supremely talented designer behind What Kate Loves. A born artist, her skills as a surface designer (together with her background in ceramic and card design) have allowed her to cultivate a personal style that’s instantly recognisable throughout her collection of homeware.
“I trained in ceramics and was influenced by the traditions of the Potteries and the timeless elegance of their designs. It is with these traditions in mind that I have created my range to reflect this same ‘timeless elegance’."
The pieces themselves rely on a simple but beautiful colour scheme of white and various shades of blue, and have been famously referred to as ‘timelessly elegant’. I have to say, I agree! Personally I adore her designs, and it’s just one of the reasons I’m proud to include her pieces in my Valley Living Collections.
From the age of six Kate was passionate about drawing and even won a Blue Peter badge for her drawing of a butterfly garden!, now Kate uses a calligraphy pen to hand draw her designs of delicate blue and white timeless patterns.
Although the designs are delicate and intricate the ceramics themselves are robust and perfect for everyday use.
Kate’s range of ceramics are made in the Potteries, Stoke on Trent.
